Chapter 1 – Honey Brown Eyes

This World has a population of about 8 Billion people as of 2022. The irony is in spite of this population the World still has sky rocketing Suicide rate, they are people who feel lonely, and there is Poverty, Murder, Genocide, countries fighting with each other and diseases. Whilst all of these issues exist, there might not be one person on the face of this earth who doesn’t know what love is. A Racist, A Murderer, A Rapist, A Corrupt Politician or Irrespective of who you are or where you are, there is no one who would not know the concept of true love. It’s like the Maker has embedded a seed inside every human. A seed of Love. The meaning of love may differ from person to person. Yet the concept still exist. Love still exists in the world.

My name is Derrick and I'm going to tell you my story which is on such similar lines. Back in those days I used to work as a call center executive for a big organization. I always had passion for music, ergo this was a completely different experience for me. Multiple failures in the other organizations compelled me to do my best here. All though I had cultivated the traits of a call center executive, getting a job was never a big deal for me as much as sustaining the job was. It's strange how failure effects your inhibition.

Eventually, I learnt the craft. Let me illuminate you about a call center executives life. These people are the “front line” of a big corporate office.  Irrespective of how the company does in the market, these are the ones who take the blow. This is one of those day, when one of the clients had a breach in their database and there were knew cards issued to our customers in the interest of security. There was a formal note issued by the company asking them to change their necessary password and to be cautious when making online transactions. Around four in the morning there was a sudden downpour of calls. By the time we could realize what had happened a call hit my desk. I gave my call opening and the customer on the other end started barking insults and abusive words. I started to sweat in anxiety and my hands were shivering. A mix of emotions were welling up inside me. At that point slightly short, fair complexioned hand held my shivering hand which was resting on the mouse. I heard the voice telling me, “His cards not working?” I turned to look at her honey brown eyes, curly long hair. She was skinny to the bones staring at me with her big beautiful honey brown eyes. Her voice had sent a different sense of calm inside me. I nodded my head. She in turn opened a website on the computer, “read these lines to the customer”, she said. I looked at what I had to say, got back on the line, “I apologies for the inconvenience I see that there was a breach in one of the clients systems, Hence for your security we had issued a new card. It’s already on the way, I will help you make the transaction right away.” I said. I heard the caller calm down. End of the call the customer was glad that I was able to help him out. The call which started with abusive phrases soon changed to appreciation and thanks giving.

“That was a great call.” I heard her say as I finished the call and updated my notes on the system. I turned to look at her, she walked up to me and shook my hand, “I am your SME (Subject Matter Expert), if you have any questions, you can ask me”, she said. Soon calls started to pile up one after the other, yet my eyes never deviated from her. I thought I was being subtle but my friend Sam was watching me. Toward the end of the shift the calls started to die down, when Sam made an eye contact with me, and said, “Can you stop with the gazing? For all you know she already has a boyfriend.” Embarrassed I said, “She helped on the call I just wanted to say thanks. But I don’t even know her name.” “Her name is Raina, she is an SME. She will assist us on call but only for today”, as Sam said these words. I turned to look at Raina and I saw her walk away. Sam logged off turned to me and said, “Don’t worry dude, you’ll get a chance to thank her. Yet you know that’s her job right?” Sam had a different sense of immaturity in her, she was in between her college years and was working here for her pocket money. Preparing to go to another country for her further studies. Her parents were divorced and she preferred staying with her father.  He was a successful lawyer and the mother was an Editor for a Local Newspaper. All in all she came from a well to do family. She had a lot of friends, and there was a Mr. Special in her life who dint know how she felt about him. In spite of having a glamorous life, she was very lonely from inside. She often said how she spent late nights with her friends smoking up and tripping Ed Sheeran’s songs playing them on the guitar. There was always a deep sense of sadness in her eyes when she narrated her late night charades.
